In the course of the past 2 weeks, I have learned much about my stress, what causes it, how severe it is, and (most importantly) how to manage it. Even though there is no concrete proof that stress kills, I would challenge that and say that it indeed does. Every aspect of wellness (whether it be physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual) affects the other aspects, and in turn affects your overall health. Therefore, it is important to maintain balance.

  1. It's been a rather long week. Stress is at a high right now with work issues, pain issues, and homelife issues. fortunately, things are slowly being worked out. I do, however, need to work more on my sleep pattern and communication skills. I will keep you all posted. In the meantime, I will focus primarily on relaxation, meditation, and reiki healing. I could really use the peace of mind right now.

  2. Clayton, thanks for telling me about typing in the blog address. It obviously worked! I would have to agree with you, stress kills. Think of all of the heart attacks that are most likely the direct result of stress. Strokes, too, are byproducts of our stress overload. I was pretty stressed last night, trying to get my nutrition science lab done and wrap up HW420 work, but we have to breathe through it. You shared the reiki healing book with me. What's your number one "go to" technique when you feel overwhelmed and stressed out?

  3. If able to do so, Holly, I step outside (usually during the early mornings after work, when the sun rises) and take a deep breath. I wait 5 seconds, and I then exhale. Then I take a look around me, and I realize that whatever upset me is small compared to the past events that led me here. I know what the stress behind a heart attack can do. I had one in 2008 at the age of 31. It scared the hell out of me. We have to take one day at a time. I try to enjoy the little things. Presently, I have my music, my model kits, my girlfriend, our cats, two vehicles (1991 Chevy pickup and a 1997 Chevy Lumina) and a set of tools, or my books. It's important to remember that we have survived worse. That's what keeps me going. :)
